ABOUT {{ currentService.name }}

Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of soft tissues and organs in the body in real-time. Ultrasound imaging is extremely safe and helpful in diagnosing and monitoring disease, assisting with minimally invasive procedures such as core needle biopsies and fine needle aspirations, and guiding interventions such as targeted medication injections and fluid drainages. Ultrasound with Doppler imaging can also be used to assess the presence, direction, and speed of blood flow in vessels, organs, and abnormal structures. Ultrasound imaging does not require ionizing radiation and is safe for use in all age groups and pregnancy.

Ultrasound examinations are performed by a specially trained technologist, also known as a sonographer. During the examination, the sonographer will apply warm water-based gel to the skin and apply a transducer probe over the area of interest. The sonographer will then move the probe back and forth over the area of interest until the desired images are acquired.

After completion of the examination, images will be reviewed by one of our expertly trained radiologists and a report will be generated describing the findings and overall impression. Ultrasound-guided procedures, such as a biopsies, are performed by the radiologist with assistance from the sonographer.
