Dr. von dem Bussche graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude from UC Berkeley with a double major in Molecular and Cell Biology and German Studies, receiving departmental awards from both. He spent his junior year studying at the University of Göttingen in Germany. Upon his return, he performed two years of research on cystic fibrosis in the laboratory of Dr. Terry Machen, for which he received the President’s Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
He received his medical degree at UC San Francisco where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AOA). He received an Instructional Technology Grant to create a new career advising web site for medical students. During his clinical years, he performed a year of epilepsy research, which resulted in a publication and for which he received grants from the Genentech Foundation and the Epilepsy Foundation of America. He also represented the school at regional and national meetings of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) for four years and was selected to attend American Medical Student Association’s Leadership Training Program.
After medical school, Dr. von dem Bussche received his radiology and subspecialty training at UC San Diego, where he was named Chief Resident. He was awarded the Elliot C. Lasser Resident Research Award for his research in abdominal CT and MRI, and he presented a number of award-winning exhibits at the national meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). While a fellow in Abdominal Imaging he also served as an attending Breast Imager at the Moore’s Cancer Center in La Jolla, California. He has instructed residents at both UC Irvine and UC San Diego.
Dr. von dem Bussche serves as Director of Compliance and Assistant Director of IT/Informatics with NHRA.
